General Information and Instructions: Year of the Air Force Family
Eligibility: Participation is open to families and youth eligible to use installation facilities.
Age level criteria for children, preteens, and teens is determined by their age as of 31 Dec 10.
Musical Accompaniment:Musical accompaniment or background music may be live or
pre-recorded. Professional quality instrumental tapes and CDs (i.e. Karaoke style) without
vocals are legally available from numerous sources for accompaniment. Performance Categories (8):
CHILDREN (ages 6 – 8 inclusive): Solo or Group Act
TEEN (ages 13 – 18 inclusive): Solo/Individual Act (Vocal)
TEEN (ages 13 – 18 inclusive): Solo/Individual Act (Instrumental)
TEEN (ages 13 – 18 inclusive): Solo/Individual Act (Performance/Specialty)
TEEN (ages 13 – 18 inclusive): Group Act
FAMILY May consist of:
Parent and Youth: At least one parent and one youth. Participants must be of the same immediate family.
Husband and Wife: One eligible member and one spouse. Participants must be of the same immediate family.
The number of participants in a group is limited to eight (8). The age of the oldest child in the CHILDREN, PRETEEN or TEEN group determines the category. For example: A group consisting of one 6-year-old, two 7-year-olds, and one 9-year-old would compete in the PRETEEN category. Group acts may be all male, all female, or mixed. A time limit is not set, but generally acts should not exceed 4 minutes.
Judging:Installation-level ugt contestants will be judged by a panel of at least three judges using the Air Force Talent criteria for technical excellence, showmanship, and costuming. Technical Excellence: The degree of mastery (display of skill or technique) over the particular performing medium. Showmanship: The combination of factors such as physical presence, appearance, poise, personality, creativity, sincerity, enthusiasm, and polish that a contestant has and communicates. Audience reaction is considered in the scoring. Interpretation of Material and Costuming:The uniqueness of the act’s wardrobe and presentation of material is considered in scoring.
Air Force Recognition: Individual participation certificates for all acts submitted to the Air Force level.
All First, Second, and Third Place winners in each of the 8 categories at the Air Force level competition will be recognized with an award and gift card. First place $200.00, Second place $100.00, and Third place $75.00. Only one gift card will be provided for each First, Second, and Third place in each category. Each winner in the Group categories will receive a minimum of $25.00. The installation POC must distribute gift cards and have the receiving person/group participant’s sign for the gift card. The AF first place winner of each category may be invited to perform with TOPS IN BLUE when the team visits the winners' installation. Invitations to perform will be based on appropriateness and suitability for the TOP IN BLUE show.
