Starting an Aero Club

Why have Aero Clubs?

Aero Clubs officially began in 1948 when General Curtiss Lemay found some of his airmen were rebuilding a small aircraft in one of the Offutt AFB hangars. His direction was, “If we are going to do this, we are going to do it right!” That was, and remains the reason we have Aero Clubs. Many of our people joined the Air Force because they wanted to be involved in aviation and many want to learn to fly. USAF Aero clubs are many times safer than our competitors outside the gate. We offer our patrons an opportunity to learn to fly, continue in their aviation education, and maintain critical flying skills….all within the proper framework to ensure our safety record remains the best in the industry.

How do I get started?

AFMAN 34-232 lays out the details of how to get started. Once you determine there is sufficient interest at your base, give HQ AFVSA/SVPCR a call at (210) 652-4979. We will help you through the administrative process to begin operations.
