By SSgt Ty Reyes
NCOIC, AF Sports

The Air Force Athletes of the Year were awarded a commemorative jacket and plaque at the 2007 Air Force Fitness & Sports Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, 27 November.  The Male Athlete of the Year was awarded to Second Lieutenant Kenneth Corigliano who’s performance at the 2007 Armed Forces Triathlon Championship directly resulted in the silver medal, he went on to take the individual silver at The Nations Triathlon race involving over 1,100 competitors.  He took first place out of 507 athletes at the Publix Family Fitness Triathlon event held in Maryland, racing in the professional division.  In Sept, 2Lt Corigliano placed third out of 259 athletes at the Patriot Half-Ironman, once again competing in the professional division.  He has successfully raced in over 90 events, capably representing the Air Force at some of the nation’s most prominent events.  2Lt Corigliano is an Analyst with the 89th Operation Support Squadron assigned to Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland.

The Female Athlete of the Year was awarded to Captain Linda Jeffery for the second year in a row.  Captain Jeffery won the All-Air Force Women’s Golf Championship and went on to lead the Air Force Team to the 2007 Armed Forces Women’s Golf Championship, where she beat her nearest opponent by 22 strokes.  Captain Jeffery led the US Armed Forces Women’s Team to Sun City, Republic of South Africa and the 2007 Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) Championship, where she won the individual title by 15 strokes.  She successfully defended her 2006 CISM individual championship and once again was instrumental in the US Armed Forces winning their fourth straight team title.  Captain Jeffery is a Plans and Programs Reservist assigned to Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.

Congratulations to the 2007 Male and Female Athletes of the Year!
